MacKay Strings is a talented group of musicians that has performed extensively at a variety of events, including weddings, parties, bar/bat mitzvoh, as well as traditional concerts.
Marybeth began playing violin at the age of 3 through the Suzuki Method. She has regularly attended the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music Summer Festival and played in chamber groups around NH. She has been a member of the Keene Chamber Orchestra, the NH Philharmonic, the NH All-State Orchestra, and the NH Honors All-State Chamber Orchestra. Marybeth interned in the ConVal School System to study the intersection of public music education and music therapy. Recently, Marybeth has participated in the Palestine Sacred Music Festival in the Middle East and the International Chamber Music Festival in Vouille, France. She currently studies Music at Ithaca College and plans to pursue Music Therapy as a career, combining her passion for music and special education.
Ian began playing violin at the age of four. He played with the New Hampshire Philharmonic from 2006 until 2011, and has also been a member of the Keene Chamber Orchestra since 2006, soloing wth KCO in 2010 and in 2012. He has attended the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music (Nelson, NH) as well as the Festival International de Musique de Chambre (Vouille, France) and has performed with the the Triple Helix Piano Trio and the Ciompi Quartet.
Ian recently returned from the Middle East after participating in the Palestine Sacred Music Festival. While there, he performed eight concerts in Jerusalem, Jenin, Ramallah, and Bethlehem. He also lead two different workshops for first and second grade students in the area. He currently studies International Relations and German Language at University of New Hampshire, and has studied abroad in Freiburg, Germany, and Chengdu, China.
Jacob performed as assistant principal cellist with the New Hampshire Philharmonic Orchestra from 2006 to 2011, and has been a member of the Keene Chamber Orchestra since 2006. He is currently the principal cellist of the Brandeis-Wellesley Orchestra. Jacob has performed multiple times with the Triple Helix Piano Trio and the Ciompi Quartet, and has participated in numerous summer music festivals including the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music, the Chamber Music Institute at Holy Cross, the Sonad Glen Brook Workshop, Electric Earth Concerts, and Monadnock Music. In 2014, Jacob participated in the Palestine Sacred Music Festival, performing Baroque and Arabic Music concerts in Israel and the West Bank. Last summer, he participated in the first ever Global Musician Workshop lead by Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble. He also performed in Vouillé, France as part of the 2015 International Festival of Chamber Music, sponsored by Chamber Music for Europe. Jacob is a senior at Brandeis University and is pursuing a double major in Environmental Studies and Cello Performance. He is a recipient of the Phyllis and Lee Coffey Award for “excellence in the performance of music.” Jacob is currently studying with Joshua Gordon of the Lydian String Quartet and is a Leonard Bernstein Music Fellow.
